My Story
Name the miracle diet, magical workout boot camp, or any advertised weight loss easy button; I have eaten it, completed it, and eagerly pushed it. Followed by failing, gaining more weight back than ever, and finding myself in a torturous cycle of hatred for food, my body, and whatever was wrong with me that I couldn’t succeed. This always led to the same result – giving up.
Then one day I couldn’t do any of it. Couldn’t eat, couldn’t exercise, and there was no easy button to fix a cancer diagnosis, never mind a sentence of chemo and radiation to be served concurrently. When it was blessedly over (2 years cancer free – yay!), walking the grocery store was exhausting and lifting a case of water was impossible, but hey, I lost 20 pounds, right?!?
That’s when it all came together. Weight loss alone cannot make you happy. Being smaller meant nothing without strength, without energy, and especially without feeling healthy.
The comeback started with 20 minutes of yoga. It took all the energy I had for the day, but it was a start. Within a couple of weeks one of my kids commented I wasn’t as tired while shopping. Walking workouts started, then baby jogs, then all out runs.
Today I thrive on variety, whether it’s kickboxing, walking the dog, running, lifting moderate weights, tabata, treadmills, gym equipment, hiking, and though no one wants to see me dance, never say never!
Activity alone is certainly not enough because having a health relationship with the fuel that runs our amazing bodies is imperative. The most impactful and extraordinary discovery during the journey discovery turns out to also be the simplest. The answer is balance!
A symbiotic balance between fitness, nutrition, and self-love. The only thing we should ever give up on is excuses. Now 100 pounds lighter than my highest weight ever and feeling the healthiest I ever have, I'm compelled to encourage and assist others experiencing their unique metamorphosis and to achieve what every woman truly deserves... comfort in our own skin.
We must sit before we crawl, crawl before we walk, and walk before we run. I am dedicating to meeting my clients where they are to get them where they want to be by empowering their confidence, motivation, and strength.
I'm Jax, an ISSA certified personal trainer and nutritionist, and without further ado, it’s your turn!
